Silicon Valley Pet Project, a non-profit group dedicated to the rescue of at-risk shelter pets in San Jose, is called The Silicon Valley Pet Project. The organization works in partnership with three local animal shelters: San Jose Animal Care Center, TriCity Animal Shelter, and County of Santa Clara Animal Services. In addition to saving shelter pets, SVPP also focuses on senior pets and special needs animals. Donations can make a difference for the SVPP San Jose shelter dogs and cats.

Services provided by SVACA

Two local animal shelters merged to create one bigger organization. SVACA provides 24 hour animal care services for Palo Alto and Mountain View. It also works with Palo Alto's animal control office. SVACA's new facility is much more modern than the Palo Alto facility which was built in the 1970s. It requires costly upgrades. Both shelters have the same geographic focus, so the new SVACA contract would allow them more time for animal-related crime.

Pet Insurance provides financial protection when your pet is injured or becomes sick. It also covers routine vet care such as vaccinations and spaying/neutering.

You can also get emergency treatment for your pet if it is in an accident or becomes sick.

There are 2 types of pet insurance.

  • Catastrophic Insurance - This insurance covers medical expenses for your cat if it sustains severe injuries.
  • Non-catastrophic-This type covers routine veterinarian costs, such as vaccines, microchips, spays/neuters, and other veterinary services.

Certain companies offer both catastrophic coverage and non-catastrophic. Others offer just one or the other.

These costs are covered by a monthly payment. The amount of your pet's care depends on what you spend.

The cost of this insurance varies depending on what company you choose. It is a good idea to shop around before making your purchase.

You may be eligible for discounts if more than one policy is purchased by the company.

You can transfer an existing pet plan from one company to another if you have it.

If you decide to not purchase any pet insurance you will be responsible for all costs.

But there are still ways that you can save money. Ask your veterinarian about discounts.

If you take your pet to the vet often, he might not be impressed.

Or, you can find a local animal shelter where you can adopt a pet instead of paying for one.

It doesn't matter what kind or type of insurance you have, you should always carefully read the fine print.

It will tell you exactly what your coverage is worth. If you aren't sure about something, call the insurer immediately.

What are the responsibilities that pet owners have?

How To

How do you choose the right name for your pet?

When you are considering adopting a pet into your family, it is one the most crucial decisions you will make. You want to pick a name that reflects who they are and what kind of personality they have.

You should also consider how others might refer to them - if you're going to use their name in conversation, for example. You should also consider how you would like to be called. Are you more comfortable calling yourself "dog" or your "pet"?

Here are some tips that will help you get started.

  1. Choose a name that is appropriate for your dog's breed. If you know the breed (e.g., Labradoodle), look up the names associated with that breed. Ask someone with a good knowledge of dogs to suggest a name.
  2. The meaning behind the name is important. Some breeds have names that are based on people or places. Others are nicknames. A Labrador Retriever, for example, was given the name "Rover" as he was always running around.
  3. Consider what you would like to be called. Are you more comfortable calling your dog "dog" or "pet?" Do you prefer to call your dog "Puppy", or "Buddy?"
  4. Don't forget to include the owner's first name. It is a smart idea to give your dog a name that includes both your first and last names. However, it doesn't mean you should limit yourself to just including the names of family members. You may have your dog as a part of your extended family.
  5. Keep in mind that many pets have multiple names. A cat, for example, might have multiple names depending on where she lives. She could be known as "Kitty Cat" at home but "Molly" while visiting her friends. This is especially true if the cat lives outside. Many cats adopt their names to suit their environment.
  6. Be creative! There are no rules saying that you must stick to a specific naming convention. Just make sure that you choose something unique and memorable.
  7. Check to make sure your chosen name hasn't been used by someone else or a group. So you don't accidentally steal someone's identity.
  8. It is not easy to choose a name for your pet. Sometimes, it can take time to find the right name for your dog. Keep trying until you find the right name!
